New MCA-I Treasurer is from Canada

Sandi Gisbert is a video Producer at TELUS Executive Communications, the internal production department of TELUS, Canada’s second largest telecommunications company. She joined the MCA-I in 2006 after researching corporate video awards for her department led her to the MCA-I Media Festival and the Golden Reels.

Inspired by the outstanding people she met at ProTrack, Sandi accepted nomination to the role of Treasurer of the International Board. “TELUS encourages all team members to get out and volunteer in their community – whether it’s the community we live in, or a community of peers - and my team and my Managing Producer are all supportive of my growing involvement with the MCA-I.”

The MCA-I Media Pro Camp - the UnConference

Check it out! And hold a Media Pro Camp in your neck of the words.
Time to plan YOUR Chapter’s MCAI Media Pro Camp for sometime in 2009!  To join the inter-chapter committee planning the series of MCA-I Media Pro Camps (aka UnConference) you can contact Todd O’Neill or join google groups and go to http://groups.google.com/group/mca-i-unconference?hl=en

With the comittment of several chapters or regions we can attract a national sponsor or two - which would mean souvenir extras such as event T-shirts, event badges and maybe some doorprizes.

Has the course been set?

by Lee Vogel
President MCA-I

Thanks to all who took the time to respond to our member survey last month. The results have been studied by the board and we have already begun developing initiatives in response to common interests.

We will continue this review at the Leader’s Summit in New Orleans February 28th.

Many of you have heard me say “MCA-I is a means, not an ends.” If it becomes its own ends, it will lose its value to the members and cease to exist. To stay valuable we must continually update the activities and benefits. All of us must always be looking for new ways to leverage our international network to help us achieve the next step in our careers or business.

Please continue to think how professional development and networking through our international association can be a benefit to you today and communicate those ideas with your chapter leaders in preparation for this meeting. Here is your opportunity to be heard and shape the association to your needs. In the end we will all benefit.

MCA-I Leaders to Meet in New Orleans
Face-to-Face and Virtually

"See you in the Big Easy!"

Gary Shifflet
MCA-I President Elect

We’re a week away from the Spring Leadership Summit in New Orleans and would like to see a few more Leaders make the effort to join us for this face-to- face opportunity to help change the world!

This event is designed to create new strategies for MCA-I in membership recruitment and Local Chapter support in developing new programming options to get the message out that MCA-I is back and stronger than ever. Friday is mostly for the board, but Leaders who come early are welcome to attend in person. Saturday is for Leaders - face-to-face and virtual.

Be a part of the new Leadership and movement to build our Association and its image into the tech savvy, business oriented organization we need it to be. For more details, write me at gary@kineticpost.com.

Tim Keenan
"...this is a really worthwhile organization and you’ll benefit from it.  You just have to keep at it and provide great programs and make it work."
Tim Keenan is just at home in the city council chambers as he is in his control room at Creative Media in Orange County CA. Tim has always welcomed change in his life. He moved from radio to the recording studio, to leadership roles in MCA-I, and then city hall. He’s open to change as a means to an end – making things better.

DR – I start with the same question, but since I always get a different answer, I’ll keep asking it. How did you get into this business?

TK - I went to school at Cal State Long Beach. I was a radio-TV communications major and started out in radio.  It was kind of coincidental that the chief engineer at the last station I worked at, started this business - Creative Media. He said me, “would you like to come to work for me?”  Well what is it you’re doing?  He said, “I’m working with a company that has a contract with the army. And we’re doing slide show sound tracks for these army training programs and there are gobs and gobs of them.” They accounted for about 90 percent of his business.

So I went to work for him part time and worked in radio part time. I discovered this whole other side of the business – this whole non-broadcast corporate side of the business that’s really kind of the bread and butter of our industry for MCA-I folks.

Would you like us to shine the spotlight on you or your business? Contact Dennis Regan more information, and if you’re reading this and are not an MCA-International member...why not join in on all the fun?
